How to keep things going for years rather than seasons.Updated April 2, 2026
Most garments die in the dryer, not in the wash. If you take one thing from this page: wash cold, dry flat.We repair anything we made, at cost, indefinitely. Email a photo and your order number and we will quote before starting any work.
Heavyweight cotton
- Cold wash, inside out, with like colours
- Never tumble dry — 480gsm loopback will shrink through the body and never come back
- Reshape while damp and dry flat; hanging stretches the shoulders
Waxed cotton
- Do not machine wash or dry clean — both strip the wax
- Sponge with cold water and let it air dry
- Re-wax annually, in thin coats, warmed. Free for the first two years if you send it to us
Technical shells
- Wash with a technical detergent, never regular detergent or softener
- Tumble dry low to reactivate the DWR — this is the one fabric that wants the dryer
- If water stops beading, wash and dry it before assuming the finish is gone
Merino
- Hand wash cold with wool detergent
- Press water out flat, never wring
- Dry flat away from radiators and sun
Raw denim
- Wash separately for the first several washes — indigo will transfer
- Cold wash, inside out, line dry
- Raw hems will fray for a few centimetres and then stabilise
